Hello lovelies! Welcome to my blog. This is a space where I share insights on my hair journey and contribute not only to the natural hair dialogue, but also to black culture rhetoric as a whole. For me, being natural is more than a fad or phase, it is a large part of my identity. Though “I am [certainly] not my hair,” my hair and the politics around my hair play a big role in my life.
Let me tell you a bit about myself.
My name is Hannah, but on the blog and other channels I go by Quirk Queen or Qq. I am a recent grad of Brown University where I studied Psychology and Africana Studies. Before Brown, I went to a predominantly white boarding school, and as a growing teenager, the pressure to have straight hair was incredible. I went through many ups and downs with my hair and finally did the big chop in June 2013 after a year of transitioning. Though Brown is also a PWI, I’ve found it to be a supportive space for me as I’ve gone through this journey.
What is unique about this blog is the fact that I balance taking care of natural hair (which, let’s face it is often a challenge) and navigating the challenges of life as a young millennial. And I keep it 100% real. I’ll share with you both my hair successes, and failures. I also interview people with different hair textures than mine to show the versatility of natural hair.
An important aspect of the blog is spreading a mission of positive lifestyle and self-love. So as of January 2016, I’ve added a new podcast series called “Hey Girl…” where I talk with various guests about leading a positive life as a popping black individual. I am so excited to share this journey with you all and encourage your engagement with me on the blog or any of my social channels!
As of January 2017, I’ve taken a brief hiatus from all things Quirk Queen, BUT stay tuned… I have something else amazing in the works.
Check out my archive of posts on all things natural hair, and stay tuned for more updates. Welcome again, and thanks for reading!
I am definitely open to collaborations with other bloggers and companies. Please check out my contact page if you’d like to collaborate on a cool and quirky project!
